“Another unusual adaptation in anglerfish is their sexual dimorphism. The males are very small in comparison with the females, and live as permanent parasites on the female. The male attaches himself, by biting, to the body of the female. His mouth fuses with her skin, and the bloodstreams of the two fishes become connected. The male is now totally dependent on the female for nourishment....

A movie I made of Cayuga Lake and Ithaca Falls.
I’m going to miss these summer days
(especially in the middle of winter when the whole lake & falls freeze over into huge sheets of ice.)
Sunflower

planted by a bird amongst the weeds and rocks no one watered you no one took care of you no one even watched you grow they were stolen by bee balm distracted by daisies seduced by black-eyed susans so that when you brought it deep from within yourself your blossom it made you shine all the brighter with a radiance outdoing all the rest so fling it from your...

Tear Ferns
I thought that a microscopic view of a tear could be interesting. But there were a few problems. The first of these, was naturally how was I going to cry on cue, especially onto a glass slide? So I sat there with a glass slide and tried to cry, but it just was so funny sitting there with the slide and trying to cry, I just broke out laughing because it was such a ludicrous scene! :-)

Magnetic Poetry
I made up a magnetic poetry board, picking words from some of the kinds of things that go through my mind :-) Hope you have fun making up a poem or a story. (Up there you can see one that I made.)
I had this up on Yahoo 360 before it went down; that’s why it’s there.
If you don’t like my words, then you can just shift-click on the word and type in a different one. (Or you...

Gould
I found this NY Times article about the debut performance of Glenn Gould, hope you find it interesting.
Gould’s rendition of Bach’s Goldberg Variations is so beautiful. I’ve listened to it hundreds of times and I’ve even gotten to like his persistent humming. :-) He conveys so many different moods and musical thoughts in the variations. I enjoyed reading the article...

“Four people were arrested on Sunday after attempting to steal a giant chili pepper from atop a Chili’s Grill and Bar in Vermont. Triggered by an alarm, cops arrived at the Chili’s in Bennington, Vt., around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday to find Asher Woodworth, 23, on the roof. He had been removing the bolts that held the red and green chili pepper in place with a hacksaw and a power...

Mahler
You are so right. It’s an awesome performance.
Georg Solti’s version of the Mahler 6 is so incredible too. It ranks at the top of all the 6ths I’ve heard - it’s so ultra dramatic and powerful. (I also like the Bernstein version and the Jansson.) From the very start the drum beat opening conjures up the soldier marching into the war of life, with all its hope and tragedy....

This is a movie I made using footage from my flower garden, a city park, and the sky above a cemetery, all set to Erich Korngold’s Violin Concerto (James Ehnes, violin). I hope you enjoy it.
